Energy Storage
We're seeking battery and supercapacitor solutions for extreme-temperature stratospheric applications as part of our MeteoSonde pico balloon platform.
Project Overview
Energy storage is critical for our pico balloon platform's ability to operate through night cycles and periods of reduced solar input. Standard lithium-ion batteries fail at stratospheric temperatures, requiring specialized solutions that can maintain capacity and charge/discharge capability at extreme cold.
Requirements
| Requirement | Specification |
|---|---|
| Operating Temperature | -65°C to +40°C with usable capacity (critical: low-end performance) |
| Capacity | Minimum 50mAh at -40°C |
| Mass Constraint | Under 5 grams total |
| Cycle Life | 500+ cycles minimum |
| Charging | Must charge at low temperatures |
