Energy Harvesting

We're seeking energy harvesting solutions for high-altitude, extreme-temperature environments as part of our MeteoSonde pico balloon platform.

Project Overview

Long-duration stratospheric flights require reliable energy harvesting to power telemetry and communication systems. We need solutions that can operate in extreme cold, high UV exposure, and varying sun angles throughout multi-month or multi-year missions.

Requirements

RequirementSpecification
Operating Temperature-65°C to +40°C (critical: low-end performance)
Power OutputMinimum 50mW average during daylight
Mass ConstraintUnder 5 grams total
DurabilityMust survive 1+ year of continuous operation
UV ResistanceHigh UV exposure at altitude

Technologies of Interest

  • Flexible or ultra-thin solar cells
  • High-efficiency III-V solar cells
  • Thermoelectric generators (TEGs)
  • Novel energy harvesting approaches

Ideal Vendor Profile

  • Experience with aerospace or extreme environment applications
  • Capability to provide tested specifications at low temperatures
  • Willingness to work on small-batch R&D quantities
  • Interest in iterative development partnership
